Runic Pentacle Small
The Pentacle has been a protective symbol for thousands of years. Its earliest connections were with the worship of the Earth Mother Goddess; from whose Sacred five pedaled apple blossom and seeds the symbol may have been derived. It is the simplest form of star that can be drawn with a single line, which is why it is sometimes called the Endless Knot. It has also been called the Goblin's Cross, the Pentalpha, the Witch's Foot, the Devil's Star, and the Seal of Solomon (more correctly attributed to the hexagram).
The pentacle is considered a protective symbol because its continuous lines keep all evil out. It has also been called the Symbol of Man, the Symbol of Truth, and the Symbol of Completion. Ancient alchemists paired the elements of the Earth to those of Man—flesh & bones to Earth, blood to water, breath to air, body heat to fire, and the soul to heavenly ether.
Our pentacle bears the runic alphabet: the Futhark, along its perimeter. This ancient magical Nordic alphabet contains a mystery of wisdom within each letter. The pentacle has long been believed to provide protection against evil spirits and demons.
