The myth of The Greek God Cupid and the Goddess Psyche illustrates the power of love and the true meaning of “soulmates.” Psyche is such a beautiful princess, that the goddess Venus becomes jealous of her. She instructs her son, Cupid, to make Psyche fall in love with a hideous monster, so all attention would again be on Venus. Instead, Cupid falls in love with Psyche. He becomes her unseen husband, visiting her only at night.
Psyche is sworn not to look upon the face of her unseen husband lest she lose his trust and his love. Out of fear, she breaks her promise and Cupid leaves her. She appeals to the Goddess Venus and undertakes a series of cruel and difficult tasks in the hope of winning him back. Eventually, Cupid can no longer bear witness to her suffering or be apart from her and pleads their cause to the gods. Psyche becomes an immortal and the lovers are married in heaven.
Cupid is said to represent the heart, and Psyche represents the soul of a relationship. Wear this piece as a reminder to cherish your own soulmate!
